What are the differences between old and new labs?

    • Max
      May 29, 2020 at 15:27

Old labs were virtual and can work on any simulator, But new labs required physical devices.
This is one of the biggest difference.

New labs will be more difficult than old labs because it contains 40% new topics.

A software-defined wide-area network (SD-WAN), is a network that is abstracted from its hardware, creating a virtualized network overlay. Operators can remotely manage and quickly scale this overlay, which can span over large geographical distances.

Cisco Software-Defined Access (SD-Access) is the industry’s first intent-based networking solution for the Enterprise built on the principles of Cisco’s Digital Network Architecture (Cisco DNA). Cisco SD-Access provides automated end-to-end segmentation to separate user, device and application traffic without redesigning the network.

    What is SD-WAN and SD-Access?

    • Ayaki
      June 2, 2020 at 08:57

Both SD-WAN and SD-Access are the ways to approach SDN terminology by taking DNA architecture. SD-Access as name suggested Software defined Access for changing the architecture of the LAN networks while SD-WAN as software defined WAN which can automate and may be next generation networks over the MPLS/VPLS.

    • Jesse
      June 5, 2020 at 09:00

SD-Access has the components like DNA-Center which acts as a controller for control plane and while data plane is still with the devices in the network.

Similarly for the SD-WAN Viptela architecture, there are three controllers which can be on the cloud or on-prem deployment and can have the control plane. All devices in the SD-WAN architecture works on the zero trust model and to maintain the trust between them they need to create the DTLS/TLS tunnels and exchange the certificates which are preloaded on the devices.

Can anybody explain the concept of fabric domain?

    • chikafusa
      June 3, 2020 at 12:04

Fabric domain is for different Administrative/policy domains. In the fabric domain, the control-plane device acts as the map-server and the map-resolver. Enables the control-plane device with IPv6 LISP map resolver capabilities.

    • Jose
      June 5, 2020 at 17:39

Fabric technology is an integral part of SD-Access, provides wired and wireless campus networks with programmable overlays and easy-to-deploy network virtualization, permitting a physical network to host one or more logical networks as required to meet the design intent.

    • Dexter
      June 6, 2020 at 14:17

The SD-Access solution combines the Cisco DNA Center software, identity services, and wired and wireless fabric functionality. Within the SD-Access solution, a fabric site is composed of an independent set of fabric control plane nodes, edge nodes, intermediate (transport only) nodes, and border nodes. Wireless integration adds fabric WLC and fabric mode AP components to the fabric site. Fabric sites can be interconnected using different types of transit networks like IP Transit, SD-WAN Transit (future) and SD-Access transit to create a larger fabric domain.

What is the Cisco Digital Network Architecture (Cisco DNA)?

    • Stanley
      June 7, 2020 at 07:55

Cisco Digital Network Architecture (Cisco DNA) is Cisco’s architecture for enterprise networks – across the campus, branch, WAN, and extended enterprise. It provides an open, extensible, and software-driven approach that makes the network simpler to manage and more agile and responsive to business needs. Cisco DNA is an intelligent system that encompasses policy, automation, analytics, and open platform capabilities to deliver on all required aspects of an intent-based network.

    • sawyer
      June 7, 2020 at 16:16

MPLS supports intranet and extranet VPNs: MPLS Intranet VPN: this is a VPN where we connect the headquarters, remote sites, branch offices, etc. from a single company. MPLS Extranet VPN: this is a VPN where we extend connectivity from a company to other parties like customers, suppliers, or partners.

There is new topic added in EI which is RESTCONF & NETCONF.
Can anybody tell me about it.

    • Christopher
      June 9, 2020 at 14:33

RESTCONF provides a programmatic interface based on standard mechanisms for accessing configuration data, state data, data-model-specific Remote Procedure Call (RPC) operations and events defined in the YANG model.

NETCONF is a protocol defined by the IETF to “install, manipulate, and delete the configuration of network devices”. NETCONF operations are realized on top of a Remote Procedure Call (RPC) layer using an XML encoding and provides a basic set of operations to edit and query configuration on a network device.

    • Henry
      June 10, 2020 at 10:21

The NETCONF capabilities allows to discover all the NETCONF server capabilities: NETCONF version, datastores, supported YANG models, feature, deviation. YANG1.1 requires that A NETCONF server announce the modules it implements with the YANG module “ietf-yang-library”

With RESTCONF, the server lists each YANG modules, deviations, features it supports using the “ietf-yang-library” YANG module, defined in ietf-netconf-yang-library.

I checked the CCIE EI lab on certbits but was not allowed, needed to register. Then I register and the link was visible.
I found that the lab is launched by ccielabcenter.
And registration on certbits played a good role as there are lots of new updates all about ccie and other technologies

Lets discuss about the VLAN technologies in CCIE EI

  43. Ricardo
    July 9, 2020 at 06:39

    Access ports

An access port is a connection on a switch that transmits data to and from a specific VLAN. Because an access port is only assigned to a single VLAN, it sends and receives frames that aren’t tagged and only have the access VLAN value.

  44. Steve
    July 10, 2020 at 07:48

    Trunk ports

Unlike an access port, a trunk port can transmit data from multiple VLANs. If you have a dozen VLANs on a particular switch, you don’t need additional cables or switches for each VLAN—just that single link. A trunk port allows you to send all those signals for each switch or router across a single trunk link. In contrast to an access port, a trunk port must use tagging in order to allow signals to get to the correct endpoint. Trunk ports typically offer higher bandwidth and lower latency than access ports.
